Margherita Pizza
Prep Time: 20 mins (+ dough resting)
Cook Time: 10 mins
Servings: 2 pizzas
Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough, store-bought or homemade, room temperature
- 1/2 cup San Marzano tomato sauce, lightly seasoned with salt
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, torn into pieces
- Handful fresh basil leaves
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Flaky sea salt, to finish
- Semolina or flour, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven as hot as it will go (500°F/260°C or higher) with a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet inside for at least 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, stretch the dough into a 10-12 inch round, keeping the edges slightly thicker for the crust.
- Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or parchment-lined baking sheet dusted with semolina.
- Spread the tomato sauce thinly over the dough, leaving a border for the crust.
- Scatter torn mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
- Slide the pizza onto the hot stone (or place the baking sheet in the oven) and bake for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is blistered and golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven, top with fresh basil leaves, drizzle with olive oil, and finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt before slicing.
